A plan of action for protecting the national meat and dairy producers will be worked out within three days. This will envision the assessment of imports, initiation of the process of introducing import taxes, intensification of border control, etc. Such an agreement was reached by acting minister of agriculture and food industry Ion Sula with associations of producers in a meeting summoned to discuss the extension of the imports of products of animal origin from Ukraine, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Agriculture, the interlocutors discussed the possibility of drawing up a program with actions that need to be taken to improve hygiene in the dairy sector and the necessity of promoting the national products by increasing consumption.

“We signed free trade agreements with the CIS states and are members of the World Trade Organization. We have the Association Agreement with the EU and, in principle, we opened the market for everyone, without having home market protection measures in place and the possibility of entering new markets,” said the executive director of the National Association of Milk and Dairy Producers “Lapte” Carolina Linte.

Acting minister Ion Sula said the flow of goods is seasonal in character. “In winter-spring, we do not have overproduction. I think we have enough time until the next season to prepare measures to support the national producers,” he stated.

Earlier, representatives of farmers expressed their concern about the imposition by Russia of a ban on the import of products of animal origin from Ukraine as the Ukrainian products could invade the Moldovan market and this will lead to the bankruptcy of the national producers.
