MDL 85 mln provided in state budget for indexation of citizens deposits could be paid only partly

The MDL 85 mln that are planned in the state budget for 2007 for the indexation of citizens’ money deposits in Banca de Economi (BEM), might be paid only partly if there will be no requests for indexation. According to data from the Ministry of Finances, at present, the amount of funds for indexation in 2007, according to the already submitted requests can constitute only MDL 21.8 mln or about 26% of the sum planned in the budget. According to the information provided by Banca de Economii, in the period from September 12 to 29 December 2006, 19,400 depositors born before 1943 have been included in the list for payment of the indexed sum in the first stage in 2007, with a total sum indexed for the first thousand rubbles of MDL 18.2 mln. In 2007, other MDL 3.6 mln are to be paid to depositors who submitted indexation requests, but didn’t take their money in the period from 2003 to 2006. This is why the authorities decided to prolong from December 29 to March 31 the deadline for admitting requests from depositors born before 1943. The Government gave the go-ahead to a decision draft concerning the payment of the indexed sum for these depositors. According to the Law on the indexation of citizens’ money deposits in BEM, of December 12, 2002, the Government is to specify annually categories of citizens whose deposits will be indexed, depending on the sums for indexation included in the State Budget. According to the Government data, in the period between 2003 and 2006, BEM depositors, born before 1940, who submitted requests for indexation until November 2006, have been paid about MDL 194 mln.
