Prime Minister Vlad Filat had a meeting with representatives of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on May 5. U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau Asif Chaudhry attended the meeting that centered on the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by Moldova under the Compact Program and the Agreement on the Implementation of the Program, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Government.
In order to continue to benefit from MCC assistance, Moldova must maintain the performance indicators for an eligible country.
James Gerard, MCC deputy general adviser on legal matters, said it is very important that the Compact is implemented by observing three main principles, namely transparency, confidentiality and avoidance of conflicts of interests.
Vlad Filat said the support provided by the U.S. Government to Moldova benefits the Moldovan people. “We pledged to be correct and transparent when implementing the Program and we will keep our word,” the Premier said.
The Government of Moldova and the Millennium Challenge Corporation signed the five-year economic development agreement granting $262 million to Moldova for investment projects in irrigation infrastructure, high-value agricultural production, and road rehabilitation in Washington in January this year.
