A group of mayors express their support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and urge the citizens to show responsibility and firmly vote “Yes” in the constitutional referendum of October 20. According to the mayors, the European integration of the Republic of Moldova in the process of developing localities is of major importance.
“The mayors of the Republic of Moldova support the country’s advance only in the European context. The mayors of the Republic of Moldova fully support the referendum of October 20. The mayors of the Republic of Moldova say “Yes!” to this referendum for the good of the communities they represent so as to restore the infrastructure of the localities they represent, education, healthcare and all community aspects because this can be done only by firmly following a path in a European community context,” the mayor of Edineț Constantin Cojocaru told a news conference hosted by IPN.
The mayor spoke about the advantages of integrating communities and the entire country into the European Union. According to him, the municipality of Edineț in recent years has benefited from European projects to the value of over €10 million. Other projects worth €15 million are under implementation. In his opinion, the European space is the only direction that the country must follow. “We came to you to say “Yes!” to the upcoming referendum and to warn everyone that only by saying “Yes!” to the advance on the European path, we will be able to achieve success. The Republic of Moldova must be integrated into a civilizational space of culture and affiliation where we belong because we remain Latins by our essence. Our Latin origin is related only to the European space,” said Constantin Cojocaru, who heads the Network of Towns of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova (CALM).
Mayor of Ungheni Vitalie Vrabie said that Ungheni tends to become a pro-European city. Over 310 million lei was allocated from European funds in the last four years. This year the mayor’s office has submitted 26 projects to the value of 213 million lei. “I also want to invite all the citizens to take responsibility and realize that our path is that of European integration and to say a strong “Yes!” at the referendum on October 20,” stated the mayor.
“It is very important that in these times full of tempests, both at home and around the world, namely we, the mayors, who enjoy the greatest trust in our localities, should come, raise public awareness about the faced challenges and encourage our citizens so that they know that there is no safer environment, quieter and friendlier to us than the European one. Today, after so many years of waiting, we no longer have the right to make mistakes and miss this historic chance for this corner of heaven,” said the mayor of Cruzești commune of Chisinau municipality Violeta Crudu, president of the Women’s Network within CALM.
“Most of us visited the European Union and saw how things stand there and the same can be built in the Republic of Moldova. The pace can be rather fast if we mobilize and participate massively in the electoral exercise of October 20. We will say a resounding “Yes!” because this is the future and the direction we must follow. There are opportunities for everyone – both for local authorities and citizens, for businesses, etc.”, said the mayor of Sireți commune of Strășeni district Leonid Boaghe.
