Mayors elected by first round of voting in six communities of seven

In six of the seven communities where early mayoral elections were held on May 20 were elected by the first round of voting.

According to the preliminary data, in the municipality of Balti the elections were won by the candidate of “Our Party” Nicolai Grigorishin, while in Jora de Mijloc village of Orhei district by the candidate of the Shor Party Marina Tauber.

In the other communities, the winners are representatives of the Democratic Party. The information was communicated to IPN by the acting head of the Communication Service of the Central Election Commission Corneliu Pasat.

In Leuseni commune of Hancesti district, most of the votes, 90.79%, were gained by the Democratic Party’s candidate  Ion Dragan, who competed with Ion Bujeac of the Party of Socialists. In Nemteni village of Hancesti district, Maria Ghitu of the Democratic Party won 82.58% of the vote, beating Timofei Sindila of the Party of Socialists.

The Democratic Party’s Ghennady Nitrean defeated the Party of Socialists’ Alexandru Cerchez in Volovita commune of Soroca district, winning 79.36% of the ballot. In Parlita commune of Ungheni district, Stanislav Babutac, of the Democratic Party, emerged victorious with 85.61% of the poll, winning against Galina Andriuta of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”.

In the municipality of Chisinau, the Party of Socialists’ candidate Ion Ceban won 40.97% of the vote, while the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase - 32.12%. The two candidates will compete for the mayoralty of Chisinau in a runoff vote in two weeks.
