The second round of new local elections will take place this Sunday, June 2, in Târnova commune of Dondușeni district and in Bucovăț city of Strășeni district. The locals are expected to elect their mayor from the two candidates who polled most of the votes in the first round, IPN reports.

The Central Election Commission said that 4,259 ballots were printed for the runoffs in the two localities at a total cost of 8,688.36 lei.

The two candidates were put on the ballot in descending order, according to the number of valid votes obtained in the first round of voting.

About 2,900 voters are expected to go to the two polling stations established in Târnova. Two polling stations were also established in Bucovăț, with 1,366 electors expected to vote there.

According to the provisions of the Electoral Code, campaigning is strictly forbidden on election day and the day preceding it. During this period, candidates are not allowed to appear in television or radio shows. Also, the local public authorities and advertisers have the obligation to remove electoral advertising materials. The ban does not apply to information that had been already posted on the Internet.

Voting in the runoffs is based on the voter rolls used in the first round. Polling stations are open from 07:00 a.m. to 09:00 p.m.
