Mayor wants more garbage bins on Chisinau’s streets and faster waste disposal

Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca requests changing the schedule for waste disposal from dumpcarts and increasing the number of garbage bins on the streets in Chisinau. At the recent City Hall meeting it was ascertained that the garbage bins from parks, omnibus stops and streets are administrated by different municipal structures. The Housing Department is responsible of the garbage bins placed on the streets, “Exdrupo” Management – of those located in the omnibus stops, and Green Spaces Management Association – of those from parks. The mayor asked for a more efficient coordination of the activities, mentioning that he will identify the service which should be responsible of installing and serving the garbage bins, so that this problem is solved for good. The persons in charge from the City Hall said that a necessary number of garbage bins is installed on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard, in the trolley stops, in parks, in the so-called “model districts”. There are few garbage bins on the secondary streets and inside the districts. According to the norms, the garbage bins should be installed on every street at a distance of 40-50 metres from each other and at a distance of 100 metres on less crowded streets. “Autosalubritate” says the cases when the dumpcarts are overfilled are due to the increase by one third in household refuse, but also because parked cars are often blocking access to them.
