Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca says that the host of problems around the beach in Vadul lui Voda “scares away all the plans for a decent rest in this resort”. He requested during a City Hall meeting the mayor of Vadul lui Voda, Iurie Onofriiciuc, to itemise as soon as possible the most serious problems around the beach. Among the problems in this leisure zone the most serious are the overcrowding, the rank growth of weed and the lack of access to sewerage for about 20% of commercial entities operating in the area. According to the mayor, the local authorities plan to undertake all the measures so that by the start of the next summer season the town of Vadul lui Voda meets the status of a real resort. Iurie Onofriiciuc also reminded about the shortage of lifeguards, with their monthly wedges of as little as 450 lei being the main problem. Currently, the team of lifeguards numbers only 5 persons, which is too few to ensure the safety of the swimmers. Earlier, Chisinau chief sanitary doctor Iurie Panzaru said that although cholera vibrios causing acute infectious diarrhoea have been discovered in the bodies of water in the municipality, such vibrios were not detected in the Nistru River. However, Panzaru expressed his discontent with the situation at the Vadul lui Voda beach, where unauthorised sales of boiled crawfish and meat pies are in full swing. Given that most of vendors near the beach don’t have access to sewerage, Panzaru warns that if left unsolved, the issue could grow into a major problem of epidemic nature.
