Mayor of the capital could be elected in the second round, opinion poll

If next Sunday elections were held for the position of general mayor of Chisinau, 35.3% of Chisinau dwellers would vote for the Socialist Party candidate, Ion Ceban, and others 30.1% - for Andrei Năstase, the candidate of ACUM DA PAS Electoral Bloc. These are the results of the sociological study conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers and presented today, September 23, at a press conference.

Vote sharing shows that the second round of local elections will be organized in the capital, as none of the candidates manages to accumulate 50% + one votes from the electorate, IPN reports.

According to the survey, 2.1% of the capital inhabitants would vote for the leader of Save Basarabia Union Party, Valeriu Munteanu, 1.9% - for the independent candidate Ruslan Codreanu, and 1.4% - would vote for the Liberal Dorin Chirtoaca  

If the elections for Parliament were held next Sunday, based on party lists, the poll shows that for PSRM would vote 31.4% of the interviewed persons, for PAS - 16.5%, and for PPPDA - 7.3%. At the same time, for the PDM, 6.9% of Moldovans would vote, for Our Party (Partidul Nostru)- 3.3%, and for Sor Political Party - 2.2%.

Among the most trusted by citizens political leaders, according to the survey, is the head of state, Igor Dodon, who has accumulated a rating of 28.8%. Next is Prime Minister Maia Sandu, trusted by 17.5% of citizens. Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Nastase, Minister of Internal Affairs, enjoys the confidence of 8.3% of the citizens.

Almost half of the respondents, 48.8%, believe that the Government led by the PAS leader, Maia Sandu, is able to change things for the better, about - 43% are sceptical in this regard. Over 80% of Moldovans believe that no early parliamentary elections will be held in the Republic of Moldova.

At the same time, if a referendum on the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union were to be held next Sunday, 39.5% of the respondents would vote for the EU, and 40.8% - for the EEU. Also, if a referendum on NATO membership were held, 23.1% of the respondents would vote for, and 45.8% would vote against.

The survey was conducted on September 11-20, on a sample of 1189 respondents, from 88 localities, the study being representative for the adult population of the Republic of Moldova. The margin of error is +/- 3.0%.
