Detective Andrei Donica said the mayor of Taraclia town caused damage of almost 1 million lei to the state budget by allowing selling a plot of land of about 13 hectares at a lower price than the real one, IPN reports.

Andrei Donica told a news conference that an investor from Spain wanted to invest about €30 million in building up a farm of about 10,000 cows. The pure-bred animals were to be brought from abroad, with a cow costing €2,000. During a year, the investor had looked for a suitable plot and in May submitted an application for taking part in an outcry auction to sell the mentioned plot in Taraclia district. The plot was auctioned together with several constructions, which represented the well-preserved infrastructure of a former farm.

“The deadline for submissions was May 8. When I filed the application, the investor was the only one who wanted to purchase that land. On May 14, when the auction took place, one more person from Taraclia appeared on the list,” said Andrei Donica, who represents the investor’s interests.

The detective also said that when the auction was held, he and the investor were driven out of the mayor’s office by four persons, who told him to give up the idea of buying the plot. They argued they were native of Taraclia and already worked out a plan for using that land.

According to Andrei Donica, even if the investor presented all the necessary documents for the auction, the representatives of the mayor’s office neglected them and sold the plot to the persons from Taraclia. The detective said the mayor of Taraclia Serghei Filipov, who renounced the seat of MP on the Communist Party’s ticket for being a mayor, pursues hidden interests. He also said that he informed all the state inspection bodies about this case and asked starting a criminal case against the mayor over abuse of power and irregularities in the sale process.
