The mayor of Hâncești town Alexandru Botnari called on his counterparts from the local public administration to combine forces. The mayor, who is the deputy head of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, said the intimidation of the mayors, who are elected by the people, should not be allowed. The statements come in the wake of searches involving the mayor, which he considers pursued political goals.
In a news conference hosted by IPN, Alexandru Botnari said that many other mayors are in a similar situation. “Is the pressing of mayors a solution for better governing the country? I don’t think so. This is a very big mistake. Today I call on all the mayors who know me to join forces for our localities not for the post we hold,” stated the mayor.
He also said that he has held mayoralty for almost 20 years and in the period got to know many political organizations and party leaders. Many parties that came swiftly to power left also swiftly. “Let’s do things well here, at home, in our country, in our towns and villages,” urged Alexandru Botnari.
“During these 20 years, I have devoted myself to the locality. I came from the business sector as I wanted to help my town develop. I want my country to become different for us all. What for were we elected in our posts? Everyone should answer for their problems. Those from the Government should do their job. Those from Parliament should adopt laws,” stated the mayor of Hâncești.
He called on the law enforcement agencies to treat everyone equally and do justice. Someone is inspected and pressed, while others who enriched themselves and did business with own firms are not touched.
