The mayor of Hâncești town Alexandru Botnari considers the recent searches that involved him pursued political and denigrating goals, while the final goal is to remove him from mayoralty. According to him, someone wanted a lot to show the power to the mayors so that these are obedient and keep silent.
“Practically all the politicians tried to use the prosecution service and the police in their struggles. That’s why the institutions of the justice sector were affected. The prosecution service and the police should act in accordance with the law, not by order of politicians. Justice should not serve political purposes. Justice should serve the people and should protect the people, including from political abuses,” Alexandru Botnari stated in a news conference at IPN.
According to him, the law enforcement agencies can do their job without using special destination groups or TV channels. The mayor’s offices are not battlefields but are a place where people’s problems are solved daily. “Many look for abuses at mayor’s offices. But why don’t you look for abuses in large offices in Chisinau or you are not allowed to look in there?” asked the mayor.
Alexandru Botnari rejects the accusations that he sold lots of land. He explained that the municipal lots are distributed by the decision of the Municipal Council, while the mayor only countersigns the decisions.
The mayor said it is regrettable that owing to his post, his family suffers. The searches also involved his son who is an adult and who bought a lot from the fourth owner not from the local administration.
Alexandru Botnari expressed his readiness to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies. According to him, no one can say that he at least once refused to provide information about the work of the Hâncești mayor’s office.
