A news conference given by the mayor of Colonita village of Chisinau municipality Angela Zaporojan and a group of local councilors who support her turned into an exchange of harsh replies with another group of councilors who make accusations against the mayor, IPN reports.
Angela Zaporojan said she holds her second term in office and ran for mayor at the request of villagers, but is prevented from fulfilling her duties. “Tell me please, is a mayor who has four contravention cases and one criminal case started against this subject to pressure or not? During a year alone, we had eight inspections, from the Financial Inspectorate, the Court of Auditors and other bodies. Believe me or not, I go to the Prosecutor’s Office more often than to my mother’s home. And don’t think that I bear any blame,” stated the mayor.
Angela Zaporojan noted that she always obeyed the law. During two years yet, her family has been subject to pressure because she opposed the appropriation of a plot of land by the Ghimpu clan. In a criminal case, she was convicted by the first court, but won the case in the appeals court. The councilors who opposed the allocation of the five hectares of land also received summons. The damage caused to the village by selling the plot amounts to 15 million lei.
The councilors of the other group said the plot that was to be privatized was allocated by the local council. The group includes councilors Dumitru Ghimp and his brother Viorel Ghimp. They accused Angela Zaporojan of safeguarding the interests of business entities that aim to develop businesses in Colonita and of hampering the plans to do nice things. The Ghimp brothers also said that the mayor intentionally denigrates their image even if they supported her in the election campaign.
