The head of Centru district Vladimir Sarban promised the problem of unauthorized trading near the Central Market will be dealt with in the near future. “We will set up more tables so that the people have where to sell,” Sarban said today in an open-air meeting called by Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca. After the visit to the Central Market, the mayor said he saw great chaos there, Info-Prim Neo reports. The people who sell young plants and trees told the mayor they pay by 50 lei to a businessman who is said to be former mayor Serafim Urecheanu's cousin. “The area on Armeneasca St belongs to the company Agro-Invest, but we are not in litigation,” the head of the Central Market Ion Stratulat explained. “There is no place inside the market. I prefer to sell here, in the sun, because more people go by here than in the market,” said a woman selling young plants outside the market. Another vendor said she pays only 12 lei to the administration of the market and stays in the shade, but she does not sell much. The vendors of dairy products also avoid going to the specialized hall. “The cheese costs 25-30 lei. To be allowed to sell I pay a tax of 30 lei. Outside the market, the people sell the dairy products for 18-20 lei, but the conditions there are insanitary,” said a woman selling in the hall. “We do not have money to pay for a place in the hall,” explained a woman selling outside the market. “There should be more selling places. We must solve this problem, but the ordinary people selling their goods should not be affected,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. Ilie Mardari, the head of the public order division of the Centru Police Commissariat, said they received no complaints about trading near the market.
