Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca is sure that he will win the third term in office and admits that there are yet corrupt persons among the functionaries of the Chisinau City Hall. He made such statements in the program “In depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
Chirtoaca considers that unlike his potential opponents, he managed to become known during his eight-year tenure as mayor. “I’m very well-known and I expect that the people will give me their votes of confidence again. During my two terms in office, I achieved many results. Nobody managed to do so many things at the Chisinau City Hall as I did during these eight years,” he stated.
On the other hand, Chirtoaca admitted that there are corrupt functionaries at the Chisinau City Hall. “I personally fired and brought before the prosecutors about 20 corrupt functionaries. Regretfully, none of them was convicted. In our country, the fight against corruption is like dust thrown into the eyes. In this respect, we are at a great distance from Romania. It is like the distance between sky and earth,” he said.
The mayor explained that some of the electoral promises could not be delivered because he met with obstruction on the part of the Chisinau Municipal Council. “I promised we will build a multistory car park in central Chisinau. Such a car park under the Great National Assembly Square would have been a successful business for 100 years on. The project wasn’t approved by the Council. We will try to get the approval during my next term,” he stated.
Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his dissatisfaction with the setting of the local general elections for June 14. “Those who are in Parliament fixed this date in order to prevent the young people who usually vote parties of the right to reach the polling booths as the Baccalaureate exams will take place in that period. The higher education institutions will also hold exams then,” he said.
