A number of officials of the Bacioi mayor’s office, including the mayor of the commune, are investigated for abuse of power. These are suspected of favoring two business entities at the tender contest to reconstruct the local crèche-kindergarten, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, in one case, the working group for choosing companies to repair the roof of the kindergarten in Bacioi favored a firm that didn’t meet a number of requirements. The mayor’s office nominated the company as a winner and signed a contract to the value of over 5 million lei with this.
In another case, the working group chose as winner a company without experience in the field to carry out internal repair works at the kindergarten, signing a contract to the value of over 11 million lei with this.
Anticorruption prosecutors on July 7 carried out searches at the offices and domiciles of persons involved in this case. These face up to ten years in jail over abuse of power.
