Mayor Chirtoaca booed during presentation of report

Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca of Chisinau was booed during the presentation of his yearly activity report. Several members of the NGO “Orasul meu drag” (“My beloved city”) came with placards and whistles to express their disapproval of the destruction of historical monuments in the city, Info-Prim Neo reports. Protesters booed when the mayor mentioned among his achievements the construction of mansards. Vitalie Voznoi, the NGO’s representative, declared that the City Hall should stop issuing authorizations for the construction of mansards. The protesters complained in particular that historical monuments are transformed into hotels and restaurants. The Mayor said that the Municipality would develop a project for the rehabilitation of the historical center and the preservation of architectural monuments. As regards mansards, he announced he would visit several sites to check out the situation for himself. Besides protesters, among those who attended the event were citizens who thanked Chritoaca for his activity, applauded him, shook his hand and bid him success.
