Maxi-taxis of the capital pay too much - Ion Mamaliga

Private passenger transporters, working on the itineraries of Chisinau municipality, do not have to pay the monthly local tax for providing passenger transport, the chairman of the Private Transporters Association, Ion Mamaliga announced about this. According to him, the municipality has to give up to this tax step-by-step, as there is no tax anywhere else in the world. More than this, Mamaliga highlighted that implementing the local tax is illegal, as the transporters have the right to provide this service once getting the license, and paying as well the monthly tax and they are imposed to a forced taxation. At the last Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), it was approved the implementation of the new rates for monthly local tax for providing the passenger transport services for 2006. According to CMC decision, starting 1 January 2006, it is implemented the monthly local tax of 250 lei for every car with a capacity up to 8 seats, working in the municipality. It is implemented as well the monthly local rate for every maxi-taxi and bus, providing transport services within the municipality Chisinau. Thus, of the category of maxi-taxis from 9 to 16 seats, the greatest tax (900 lei) will be paid by the maxi-taxis with terminus stations str. Studentilor – str. Miorita, str. M. Sadoveanu – avenue Decebal, str. Pietrarilor – str. Alba-Iulia, and the least will pay the owners of maxi-taxis for town Durlesti – Calea Basarabiei (180 lei), str. Balanescu – village Tohatin (250 lei), Piata Dimitrie Cantemir – town Vatra (300 lei). According to Ion Mamaliga, the local tax was reduced insignificantly for maxi-taxis of the itineraries redirected of the avenue Stefan cel Mare si Sfant, as result of decreasing passengers’ number. He also noted that the reduced amount was compensated of the account of other roads; therefore the municipal budget will not be damaged. CMC decision stipulates as well reducing of the tax for the period 1 July - 31 August for the maxi-taxi nr.125, as result of reducing the passengers’ number. In the same time, it is foreseen the tax increase in summer to maxi-taxis nr. 130 and 131, working on the itinerary Chisinau – Vadul lui Voda, as well as the maxi-taxis nr. 145, 54 and 56. At the proposal of public transport and communications department (DGTPCC), municipal enterprise „Bus Company” it was exempted of the local tax in order to provide the mentioned services for public use, as result of working with losses. Capital maxi-taxis pay annually in the municipal budget about 16 million lei. For Bus Company and Chisinau Electric Transport Department, working with losses, the municipality allocated about 140 million lei.
