Children and young people from the diaspora will receive martsishors (amulets worn at chest in March to celebrate the coming of spring) made at the National Center for Children and Youth “Artico” and the Center for Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Children with Intellectual Disabilities “Cultum”. According to a communique of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, the 3,500 martsishors will bring the country closer to the Moldovans who are abroad, IPN reports.

In the period between February 16 and 18, the Center “Artico” will become a ‘factory’ for making martsishors, where children and young people of all ages, who are fond of making things by hand, will make 2,000 martsishors for their mates from abroad. The beneficiaries of the Center “Cultum”, which is based in Stauceni commune, will resume the activity of last year, when they managed to make 1,500 martsishors.

“We are launching today the project “Martsishor – longing for home” to remind the Moldovans everywhere that the tradition of wearing spring amulets is alive in their motherland. We want thus to announce the holiday of spring, freshness and joy. This year the martsishors will help form friendships as each amulet will be made with soul and will be accompanied by a personalized message,” said the acting director of “Artico” Sergiu Scarlat.

The martsishors will be distributed to children and young people abroad through the agency of the diaspora associations from 15 countries.
