“Martisor-2008” International Song Festival’s Programme

Musical groups and singers from Moldova, Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Russia, China, Finland, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries will participate in the forty-second “Martisor-2008” International Song Festival, to take place during March 1-10 in Chisinau. The programme of the Festival includes 26 concerts held in four concert halls in Chisinau: the National Palace, the Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Organ Hall and the National Philharmonics, and other 40 concerts given throughout Moldova, Info-Prim Neo informs.
The Festival’s opening concert will be held at the National Palace on March 1, starting 6 PM. Renowned Moldovan artists and guests from abroad will perform.
On 2 March, the entertainment spectacle “The Recital of Stars” will be held on the stage of the National Palace. The concert will feature foreign artists. The show “My Generation”, given by young Moldovan performers, winners of international contests, will take place on 3 March. A concert in remembrance of Ana Gherman, themed “A name among recollections”, is scheduled for 4 March. The concert will feature such singers as Anne Veski, Xenia Gheorghiadi, Maria Codreanu, Nadejda Cepraga, Larisa Nevara. The anniversary spectacle “Nicolae Botgros Jubilee”, celebrating 55 years of the birth of the Lautarii National Folk Music Orchestra’s conductor, is planned for 5 March. The National Palace will also host the show “Spring – the love season” held on the 6th of March, with the participation of Romanian pop music singers, the show “Woman, the Life Bringer”, dedicated to the International Women’s Day – on 7 March and on 8 March the entertainment show “Woman – the mystery of Spring. Russian duet Angelica Varum and Leonid Agutin will give a concert on 9 March.
The closing concert of “Martisor-2008” Festival will also be held on the stage of the National Palace on 10 March, starting 6 PM, conceived as a dance musical show, featuring musical groups representing Moldova’s minorities.
The Organ Hall will host on 2 March a chamber concert, conductor – Misha Katz /France/. On 4 March, Liisa Luukkala-Ahlberg from Finland will give an organ recital. “An evening of percussion and ethno jazz” will take place on 5 March, featuring the Romanian group “Alternances” and the Moldovan Ethno Jazz Group “Trigon”. A chamber concert given by the Russian soloist Alexandr Rudin (cello) will be held on 7 March in the Organ Hall. On 8 March, the Russian Gypsytrio “Loyko” will bring to the audience’s attention a blend of Gypsy, Romanian and Hungarian folk programme. The Show “Singing Guitars”, given by the Baltic Guitar Quartet from Lithuania, will take place on 9 March.
The National Philharmonics “Serghei Lunchevici” will present on 2 March the spectacle “Musical Martisoare” with the participation of the “Folclor” Folk Music Orchestra. A Chamber concert, performed by the soloists Dmitri Goncear (viola) and Ecaterina Deleu (piano) from Sankt-Petersburg, will be held on 3 March. A symphonic concert given by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Philharmonics, conductor –Ender Pinar /Turkey/ will be held on 4 March. A choir concert, performed by the “Doina” Academic Choir, is scheduled for 5 March, and a symphonic concert, soloist - Alexei Nabiulin (piano) from Russia, winner of the “P.I. Ceaikovski” International Contest, conductor – Robert Luther /USA/ - on 6 March. On 7 March, Alexei Nabiulin will give a piano recital. A folk concert featuring “Vitinanka” and “Mirskie Muziki” groups from Belarus will be held on 8 March. On 9 March, the National Philharmonics will host an entertainment concert for children, given by the Trio de Camera from Austria.
Also during the Festival, the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet will host on 2 March the Opera “Eugene Onegin”, featuring Russian soloists, and on 9 March – the Opera “The Barber of Seville”, featuring Romanian opera singers.
