The Ambassador of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova Marko Shevchenko said the war in his country entered a decisive phase and Kyiv calls on the international community to supply Ukraine with modern weapons. Ukraine’s victory in this war will represent the victory of the whole democratic world and over 80% of the Ukrainians consider that Russia can be beaten in this war. Nothing in Ukraine’s history united society so much as Russia did by its criminal attack, IPN reports.
The ambassador noted that the Russian army suffered a complete failure in its intention to occupy Kyiv during 48 hours and also didn’t manage to gain control over large Ukrainian citizens as the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian army only strengthened the people’s confidence that Ukraine can score a victory.
“We managed to resist during the first, most difficult weeks of fighting. The situation has improved considerably, but remains difficult. Our enemy failed to conquer Kyiv and other large cities, except Kherson. The state of spirit of society is at the highest level since the start of the war. It is for the first time in the history of Ukraine that society is so united. Over 80% of the Ukrainians consider that Ukraine can win this war. The atrocities committed by the Russian army only fortified the state of spirit of the Ukrainians and increased the number of citizens who want the war to end with Ukraine’s victory. Currently, the Russian soldiers withdrew from the northern regions and get ready for the decisive battle in this war, for Donbas and the south of Ukraine. But the Ukrainians also prepare and we consider we can win,” Marko Shevchenko stated in the program “Diplomatic Dimension” on the public TV channel.
He noted that the decisive battle between Russia and Ukraine will be given in the near future and his country calls on the whole international community to faster deliver weapons to the Ukrainians. At the negotiations, the Ukrainian delegation does not make any concession to Russia and insistently asks for a ceasefire and for the immediate withdrawal of troops.
“We are at war with a country with much larger economic, human and military resources than those of Ukraine. Therefore, we need assistance as we enter the decisive phase of this war and our supplies of Soviet or post-Soviet armaments are rather limited. We need modern weapons and therefore ask our allies to supply us with more sophisticated arms as faster as possible as each day means losses of human lives for us. A peace treaty and a ceasefire are demanded at any talks. In our case, any document signed by Ukraine and Russia means a halt to the war and full withdrawal of the Russian troops from our territory, including Donbas, Crimea. We can negotiate a longer period of time here, but our official stance is that the Russian troops should withdraw behind the line of February 23,” said the Ukrainian diplomat.
According to the UN, over 4.6 million Ukrainians have fled the country since the war broke out in Ukraine. The Ministry of Home Affairs of Moldova said there are over 96,000 Ukrainian refugees in Moldova at present.
