The State Tax Service will carry out inspections at the main agrifood markets in Chisinau and the country’s districts on Easter. Nicolae Platon, head of the State Main Tax Inspectorate, told a news conference on April 22 that the formation of prices in markets is monitored throughout the year, but the inspections are stepped up during holidays, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We aim to protect the consumers from the abuse of dishonest traders, who groundlessly increase the prices of the main food products. Furthermore, a large part of the goods are sold at the Central Market in Chisinau and the markets in districts without documents of origin. The tax inspectors will check the origin of these products,” said Nicolae Platon. According to him, the market administrators who will allow selling goods that are not accompanied by the necessary documents will be fined 6,000 lei. The fines for traders vary between 200 and 1,800 lei, depending on the committed irregularity. The tax inspectors imposed fines of 5.5 million lei on economic entities so far this year.
