The negotiators of the Agreement on the Creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between Moldova and the European Union are yet to discuss the market protection instruments. The negotiations should be closed by the meeting of the Cooperation Committee between Moldova and the EU, which will take place in June, acting Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar told a news conference, quoted by IPN.
According to the official, the parties identified the balance needed to ensure the industrial products’ access to the market. It is yet harder as regards the agrifood products. On the one hand, they account for a considerable part of the exports. On the other hand, the EU countries can offer the agricultural producers much larger subsidies than Moldova.
”We should not hurry up. We must negotiate attentively and obtain gradually the liberalization of the market for agrifood products. We should not hasten the negotiations on the agreement. However, I hope that they will be completed by the June meeting of the Cooperation Committee and the agreement will be initialed,” said Valeriu Lazar.
The Ministry of Economy is drafting a strategy to ensure companies’ compliance with the provisions of the future DCFTA Agreement. When it is ready, the document will be published on the Ministry’s website and proposed for public debates.
