“The meeting between Vladimir Voronin and the Alliance for European Integration's presidential candidate Marian Lupu has been complicated and unproductive. The two did not manage to clarify the 12 proposals submitted by the Alliance,” Communist MP Mark Tkachuk said Friday after the leaders of the PCRM and the PDM met to discuss the election of the head of state, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Our position remained unchanged. We will stick to the decision made by the Central Committee of the PCRM before the November 10 presidential elections: we will not vote in favor of Lupu. It is not our blame. The other parties are to blame as they do not recognize that half of the population voted for our party,” Tkachuk said.
The Communist MP stressed that a part of the 12 proposals have been copied from the Constitution, another part from Moldova's international obligations, while the rest are unclear. “We cannot negotiate on the basis of these proposals,” Tkachuk said.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat also met with Vladimir Voronin. After the meeting, he said the Communist leader gave neither a yes nor a no. “We did not hold negotiations, but an open discussion. I expressed my concern about the present situation as this long election process must be stopped,” Filat said.
According to Vlad Filat, the Communist leader said the PCRM will take a final decision in the morning of December 7, when the party will hold a plenary meeting, before the Parliament's special sitting.
Mark Tkachuk did not confirm that the plenary meeting of the PCRM will take place, but said that the party will yet decide.
Asked if more meetings between leaders will take place, Filat said he will seek one more meeting if need be, while Tkachuk said it's no use holding such meetings anymore.
