Vitalie Marinuta said he resigned from the post of Minister of Defense because the head of state criticizes the Ministry’s view on the reformation of the area and requested transferring a part of the control powers from the civil minister to the national army commander, IPN reports.

“This is now how I see a democratic reform,” Vitalie Marinuta said in a news conference. According to him, the army must be managed by a civilian so as to avoid difficult situations.

Vitalie Marinuta also said that he managed to do a number of important things in the four years and five months as minister of defense, but now he is told to stop some of the initiated reforms. “This is not democracy. I demand not humiliating the army and not involving it in political games. You can criticize me and my inferiors, but the army should not be affected,” he stated.

The fact that Vitalie Marinuta tendered his resignation became known on February 27, after the meeting of the Ministry’s Board, which was attended by President Nicolae Timofti.

The Ministry of Defense was managed by a representative of the Liberal Reforming Party of the Pro-European Coalition.
