The Democratic Party’s candidate for President Marian Lupu will head the list of candidates on ballots if he is registered. The PDM filed the documents needed for registration to the Central Election Commission (CEC), being the first to do this. It said that its initiative group collected about 29,000 signatures in support of its candidate at a time when a minimum of 15,000 signatures is needed.
Contacted by IPN, CEC secretary Veaceslav Agrigoroae said that in accordance with the regulations concerning drawing procedures, if no other potential election runner submits the documents the day an election competitor filed these by 5pm that day, no draw is held. Thus, if at least 15,000 valid signatures in support of Marian Lupu are identified when the subscription lists are verified, this will be the first on the ballot.
In a press release, the PDM says they managed to collect the number of signatures needed for having their candidate registered in a very short period of time owing to the mobilization shown the very first day. “We collected 29,000 signatures, which is much more than the necessary minimum. We are glad that we are the first party that managed to collect the signatures. This is a good sign for our election campaign,” stated Marian Lupu.
The candidates for President must submit the subscription lists with the minimum 15,000 signatures to the CEC for being registered as competitors by September 29.
