Marian Lupu decided to leave the post of chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM). The announcement was made in the December 10 meeting of the party’s Political Council, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the party, the representatives of the Council decided that the PDM’s Congress will be convened on December 24. In the meeting, Marian Lupu announced that he vacates the post of the party’s leader as of December 10 and will not run for the chairmanship in the meeting of the Congress. Marian Lupu said he remains near the PDM and will become involved in new projects aimed at developing the party.
Another subject discussed by the Political Council was the necessity of modernizing the PDM so that it becomes the main party in the Republic of Moldova after the parliamentary elections of 2018.
Marian Lupu joined the Democratic Party in 2009, after he left the Party of Communists because this didn’t field him for the office of President of Moldova. This year Marian Lupu ran in the presidential elections, but withdrew from the race on the last 100 meters.
