Marian Lupu to visit Strasbourg

Head of Parliament Marian Lupu will pay a two-day working visit to Strasbourg on March 2 and 3, at the invitation of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, Info-prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the legislative body. Moldova’s Acting President will meet with Thorbjørn Jagland, President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, and Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg. The program of the visit also includes meetings with the Council of Europe’s Director General for Democracy and Political Affairs Jean Louis Laurens, and Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank Raphaël Alomar. The discussions with the European officials will center on the present relations between Moldova and the Council of Europe and the prospects of developing them, the adjustment of the national legislation to the EU’s acquis, the closing of the CE’s monitoring and the launch of the post-monitoring dialogue. There will be also discussed the political situation in Moldova and the plan of legislative actions between the PACE and Moldova, which was initiated by Marian Lupu in 2006.
