The PLDM is the only party that will not attend the first round of negotiations on the formation of a new ruling coalition, initiated by the PDM, the Democrats’ leader Marian Lupu said in the October 29 talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

“I phoned everyone and invited them to meet tomorrow (October 30, e.n.), at 4pm, for the first discussion on the formation of the new alliance. The PL accepted as Iurie Leanca and the other two unaffiliated MPs, Petru Stirbate and Lidia Lupu, did. The PLDM will not attend. I spoke to Valeriu Strelet and he told me that they will not take part as they must discuss inside the party first and will inform us when the moment comes. I note that it was a discussion within the limits of decency. The invitation remains in force. I hope the PLDM will ultimately realize the necessity of forming a pro-European alliance,” stated Marian Lupu.

As to the candidacy of Iurie Leanca for premiership, Marian Lupu said the PDM approves of this candidate. “I didn’t talk to Mister Leanca about this. I think he is a suitable candidate. Iurie Leanca did a lot for the country‘s European integration. The formula is good, but I don’t know how possible it is. It depends on the MPs of the PLDM too,” he stated.

The Democrats’ leader also said that there are now two big dangers threatening Moldova – the impossibility of forming a pro-European government coalition and the impossibility of electing the head of state. “The first and most serious danger resides in the incapacity to form a ruling alliance and to invest the Government. I do not examine such a way as I consider it impossible. We declared that we will not form an alliance of the left and will not interrupt the country’s European course. The non-election of the President is the second danger. If we overcome the current political crisis now, in four months we will have to deal with another challenge. We should not play. It is impossible to amend the Constitution, either in Parliament or by referendum, in the remaining four months. So, in March we will have to elect the head of state by 61 votes, as provided by the law,” he stated.
