The candidate for Prime Minister Ion Sturza will not find support in Parliament as this is a candidate without chances of garnering the necessary number of votes, the chairmen of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said, noting the head of state played a hidden game plotted by the Liberal Democratic Party, IPN reports.

“The President is free to take decisions and this is his decision. But he proposed a candidate without parliamentary support and without chances, who is thus without legitimacy,” said the politician.

According to Mariana Lupu, a show with a predictable result will follow. “The chances for a Sturza Cabinet to be voted in are nil. This thing was explained in the negotiations that involved the parties. This candidate was discussed long ago. He was daily promoted by a group pursuing hidden goals. The President ultimately yielded and fielded this candidate. It’s regrettable that the head of state accepted to take part in such games. I hope he is aware and assumes the consequences, if we reach a more serious impasse,” he stated.

The leader of the PDM considers this appointment is the result of an agreement reached by President Nicolae Timofti and the PLDM a month ago. “In such a situation, it is absolutely evident that we are witnessing a secret game imposed by the administration of the PLDM, which stalled for time. This makes us think that this party aims to block the country in a crisis. Ion Sturza became an official candidate of the PLDM, who is non-transparent and is hidden behind the term of technocrat,” he stated.

According to Lupu, Nicolae Timofti at a certain moment said it openly that he invited the acting chairman of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet and discussed the candidacy of Ion Sturza. Later, Valeriu Strelet and the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group approved of this candidate, as the party’s National Political Council did. “It was a great surprise for us, the Democrats. We saw he same surprise on the faces of our colleagues from the PL and PPEM,” stated the leader of the PDM.

The Democratic Party maintains its position and will not consider this candidate that is actually the Lib-Dems’ candidate. As to the nomination way, Marian Lupu said everything was done in secret, without respecting the opinion of the majority. It was even abusive and not in accordance with the norms and spirit of the Constitution. Therefore, the Democrats will not have a discussion with Ion Sturza.

Marian Lupu refused to answer journalists’ questions and said nothing about the discussions that the Democrats had today with the 14 MPs who left the Party of Communists and intend to become involved in the talks on the formation of a ruling alliance.
