The primary for choosing candidates for Parliament, held by the Democratic Party (PDM), was a success. The people showed that they want to take part in decision-making and have a say, the party’s chairman Marian Lupu told a news conference on September 29, IPN reports.

The leader of the PDM underlined that though this primary was the first election of the kind staged by a party, its success was due to the people who took part in it. “We are obliged to listen to the people of Moldova if we assume responsibility for their future. From now on, nobody in politics, the local communities and the state administration will be able to take decisions without consulting the people and without the people’s participation,” said Marian Lupu.

He also said that what was done was only the first step, but it was a step that improves Moldova’s image before the democratic peoples. About 98,000 people from all over the country took part in the PDM’s primary. They included members and sympathizers of other parties too. This shows that holding the primary was a correct decision. “The PDM is determined to address the problems faced by the people daily in the same open and courageous way,” stated the leader of the PDM.

The totaling center set up in Chisinau started to count the almost 500,000 nominations proposed in the primary. More than 200 observers from all the districts of the country were involved in the vote count that will last for several days.

A number of 42 polling places were set up in all the country’s districts and two poling places in Italy for the primary. Based on the results, the Democratic Party will compile its list of candidates for the November 30 legislative elections.
