The decision by President Nicolae Timofti to nominate Ion Paduraru as a candidate for Prime Minister pushes the country towards early legislative elections, chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said over the phone during the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“This candidate wasn’t discussed with us. It is a surprising decision that we do not understand. Not long ago, we had discussions with members of the President’s staff and were invited to the President’s Residence to discuss another candidate. At half way, we were informed that the situation changed and a decree was already signed,” stated Lupu.
The Democrats’ leader made it clear that the party he represents will not discuss with the new candidate. “This candidate is not supported by a parliamentary majority and there are also other flaws. We will carry out a serious analysis and will make a comprehensive statement, not of the PDM, but of the parliamentary majority that continues to exist,” he said.
