The interim head of the state and the Democratic Party leader, Marian Lupu, is satisfied with the results of the first and second rounds of the local elections. According to him, PDM registered the biggest growth of the all the Alliance members, compared to the last parliamentary and local elections. Marian Lupu made these statements on Tuesday, June 21, after the AIE meeting.
“Moldovan citizens are not captives under the influence of one party or another anymore. We have chosen the path of a pluralist society and a multiparty political system”, Lupu declared as the main conclusion of the last elections.
He added that the results in Chisinau and in the whole country strengthened a necessary political balance, crucial for Moldova’s stability.
The Democrats’ leader said that at the AIE meeting, the three Alliance parties decided to join their forces at local level as well. Moreover, the negotiations regarding the President’s election resumed. “We discussed our engagement to elect the head of the state and agreed to find any viable, legal solution. The President’s election will put an end to the overlong political crisis and will avoid early elections which are harmful for the whole country”, said Marian Lupu.
Asked to comment on the answer of the Venice Commission on this subject, Lupu replied that there were a number of issues, all of which should be considered, including the juridical conclusions. “It’s clearly said that it is the sovereign right of the Constitutional Court, of a sovereign country, to find a solution considering, I quote: “the particular circumstances that occurred in the country, for overcoming the political crisis”. So it’s a document that offers room for flexibility and it’s up to the Constitutional Court of Moldova to give the verdict”, he explained.
The PDM leader added that if this solution failed, “we shall find other legal ways, but it’s important any solution fits within the legislative framework of the country and leads to the expected result”.
