The bill to introduce the European integration as Moldova’s strategic development course in the Constitution comes with a practical value added that secures not only the political, but also the economic interests of the country, vice president of the Democratic Party of Moldova Marian Lupu was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel.

According to him, the “European integration” phrase, when it is introduced in the Constitution, will make Moldova’s European course irreversible in a decisive way. “I do not speak about the entry, but about the integration as a model of democratic, political, social and economic development,” stated the politician.

He noted that the European integration course as a constitutional norm will not allow particular forces to take Moldova towards the Eurasian Union in the future. “They will be unable to as they will have to first remove the European integration objective from the Constitution and then to go towards the Customs Union. This is an extremely difficult thing,” said Marian Lupu.

He stated the Eurasian Union actually means the Customs Union that obliges the member states to apply the common import duties policy. “If the Republic of Moldova becomes a member of the Customs Union, it will go against the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. Respectively, the Republic of Moldova will have to scarp these agreements with the EU,” he added.

The legislative initiative to introduce the European integration course in the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova was debated in the October 12 sitting of Parliament, but the vote on it was postponed until next week.
