The chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova Marian Lupu considers the subject of a coalition between the pro-European parties is out-of-date owing to the behavior of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova. In this situation, a parliamentary majority will have to be agreed for voting in the Government without formalizing a majority coalition. The leader of the PDM stated this and other opinions in an interview for the portal moldova.org, after the National Political Council of the PLDM, in the evening of November 30, announced its decision to take part in the formation of a pro-European coalition if the previously enumerated conditions are met.

“I think the subject of a coalition between the pro-European parties is dated already, namely because of the behavior of the PLDM. The ambiguous attitude of the Lib-Dems makes us think how to secure the votes needed to form a parliamentary majority that would invest a new Government as soon as possible. We are ready to discuss, as we announced from the very beginning, and to look for a formula that would allow us to form a parliamentary majority around the new Government. I think this can be done without forming an official alliance. We will ask first of all our colleagues from the PLDM if they will come to the discussions and how many votes they can guarantee as this is a very important detail. It is one thing if we can count on the votes of 10-12 Liberal-Democratic MPs and it is another thing if we can count on all their 18 votes,” stated Marian Lupu.

The Democrats’ leader noted that the PLDM’s decision to take part in the negotiations was a predictable one. “Surely, the leadership of the PLDM could no longer avoid assuming this decision publicly. By different stratagems, they managed to delay taking such a decision, but the pressure exerted on the PLDM’s administration by the local organizations was terrible already. They had been practically forced to take this decision. Furthermore, the European leaders made a clear recommendation for the Lib-Dens to end their games and come to discussions,” he stated.

According to Marian Lupu, the PDM does not accept preconditions for initiating the negotiations. “They said nothing new, putting forward the same preconditions as those disseminated by the media for a period for not negotiating. If you want to block any discussion, putting conditions is the easiest way to do this. It is ultimately not the nature of the conditions that causes blockage, but the attitude and simulation of a dialogue. The European partners said it clearly: sit and discuss, without preconditions! That’s why today nobody pays attention to the PLDM’s conditions. They should come to discussions to find out our position. We are ready to have discussions with all the parties. Those who come with conditions will leave as they came, together with the conditions,” he said.

Marian Lupu also said that a candidate for premiership could be nominated towards the end of this week. “If we manage to agree the method of voting in the Government this week, we can field a candidate by this weekend. All the parties will hold consultations to discuss this candidate,” he stated.

The National Political Council of the Liberal Democratic Party decided that the party will take part in the negotiations and formation of a parliamentary majority so that a new Government could be voted in, but will yet insist on the conditions put forward earlier. These include the adoption of a roadmap for freeing the captive inspection, regulatory and supervision state institutions, appointment of an apolitical person as Prime Minister, creation of equal conditions for all the sides taking part in the consultations, and ensuring of the public character of the political discussions.
