“The only viable solutions are those that will keep and accelerate the Alliance for European Integration’s course for development, European integration and openness. If a solution for electing the head of state is found in this frame, I reiterate that I will not stick to the status of candidate for the presidency,” Acting President Marian Lupu said in the evening of September 28 when making a call to the parliamentary parties and the people, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Marian Lupu said he decided to launch a call because it is time to take cardinal decisions for Moldova’s future. “We have been unable to elect the President over two years. The latest events force us to find solutions. That’s why I return to the idea of unconditionally initiating a dialogue between the parliamentary forces and discussions with society and our development partners in order to reach the compromises that will help Moldova go on,” said Moldova’s Acting President and the chairman of the Democratic Party.
Marian Lupu invited the representatives of the parliamentary parties to a roundtable meeting on September 30, starting at 5pm, or on October 1, starting at 1pm. He said he will commence in parallel a series of working meetings on these topics with national and foreign partners of the Moldovan authorities.
The Democratic leader drew a parallel with the election of the head of state in 2005. “A number of agreements were then reached with the newly elected President, but they were reached as a result of political dialogue and were not preconditions. What was more important was that the “10 plus 2 principles” on the basis of which the PCRM obtained the additional votes in Parliament represented matters that aimed to balance out the relationship between the power and the opposition. The latter was empowered to administer institutions responsible for the democratic stability. Today we must discuss within the same limits,” said Marian Lupu, adding the attempts to elect the head of state must finally produce the expected result.
