At this stage Moldova must ensure qualitative economic growth and increase competitiveness, the president of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said in a conference centering on the Professional Day of the Economist that is marked the last Sunday of September, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the party.
“Moldova in 2000-2008 witnessed economic growth. The average growth rate was 6% a year and this is a rather good indicator. But we must not forget that the quality of growth must increase together with the production potential. The legal base and fiscal environment must stimulate the entrepreneurs. Well-known economists recommend this as a method of solving the major problems faced by the country. The priorities include reintegration of the migrant workers, diversification of the economy and social sphere, and transformation of Moldova into a civilized European state,” the leader of the PDM said.
The event organized by the Ministry of Economy was attended by former ministers of economy who served after 1989. In the forum, Marian Lupu said a mistake made by a doctor affects one person, while that made by a manager-economist can affect the whole society. “I form part of this professional category. I started work as a translator at the Ministry of Economy in the 1990s. I think it was then that Moldova chose the correct path – towards market economy,” he said.
Marian Lupu praised the Moldovan economists for their professionalism. “I remember two crises that Moldova managed to overcome – in 1998 and in 2009-2010. The ability to find ways out in such situations is very important. I think the Moldovan economists coped with these situations,” he said.
“We obtained access to the resources of foreign donors and this shows that Moldova is recognized and its economists are appreciated.”
