The European project is a key priority that is the only appropriate path for Moldova in all the spheres - economic, social, political, democratic, and cultural. The Association Agreement with the EU is for Moldova’s benefit and does not go against the development of cooperation relations with the Eastern partners, the chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, who is a candidate for President, stated in a press briefing on September 1, IPN reports.
“The Moldova – European Union Association Agreement is pro-Moldova and for the benefit of Moldova and is no way aimed against the development and strengthening of the relations of cooperation with our partners from the East – the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and others. The neighboring countries, Romania and Ukraine, play a special role in our relations as this is how geography, history and God wanted. Only this path can ensure a quiet and bright future for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. I always considered it important for Moldova to have an intelligent and balanced external policy that would promote the interests of all its citizens,” said Marian Lupu.
The Democratic leader also said that the Republic of Moldova has what to be proud of even if it went through difficult crises recently, but the situation stabilized. “We need more and should build and should no longer return to conflicts and destructive crises. I’m against political chaos and will always continue, from any position, to do everything possible for the changes to the better to be felt by our people,” he stated.
According to the politician, Moldova must be brought at the level of civilized standards so that the people regain confidence and this is possible only if European standards and models are implemented. Moldova benefitted from the largest EU development assistance – technical, financial, technological assistance, projects, etc. “The Democratic Party supported and guaranteed the European course of Moldova during the last seven years. If at the start of this road we had only hope, today the Republic of Moldova is implementing the Association Agreement with the European Union. Huge steps were taken and these are only the first steps,” he said.
In a meeting of the National Political Council of the Democratic Party on August 31, Marian Lupu was nominated for President of Moldova. On September 1, the party submitted the documents required for having its initiative group for collecting signatures in support of its candidate registered to the Central Election Commission.
