The election of the head of state only for the sake of election is not a solution as this unprepared path perpetuates the political crises and leads to early elections. This will have dramatic consequences for Moldova, Speaker Marian Lupu said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Marian Lupu, the election of the President should take place when it is prepared in accordance with the existent legislation. It is already two years since the legislature cannot elect the head of state. Unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea said the President will be elected when the party interests or the personal and political vainglory are abandoned. “The early elections can be another temporary solution for Moldova,” said the lawmaker. He also said that a party that respects itself wants to have a head of state. “The ruling alliance should now accelerate the reforms in all the areas so that the people feel the positive economic and social effects,” stated Mihai Godea. According to him, the issue of presidential elections should be more seriously treated after the local elections. On May 20, 2009, the Communists could not obtain a vote to elect Zinaida Greceanyi as head of state. The rerun elections on May 28 also failed so that Acting President Vladimir Voronin dissolved Parliament and nominated July 29, 2009 as the day of early legislative elections. As a result of the elections, there was formed the Alliance for European Integration that fielded Marian Lupu for President in December 2009. The elections failed again and new early parliamentary elections were held in November 2010. They were preceded in September by a constitutional referendum for amending the method of electing the head of state. Most of the voters voted in favor of direct election of the President by people, but the results of the referendum were not validated owing to the low turnout.
