„The situation related to the ban of Moldovan wine imports in the Russian Federation is part of a series of events that cannot by regarded as economic coincidence any longer,” reads a letter by Moldovan Speaker Marian Lupu to the chairman of the Russian State Duma, Boris Grizlov, and chairman of the Federal Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, Sergey Mironov. According to a press release of the Moldovan parliament, the Moldovan speaker is concerned with situation after the federal service for the supervision of rights of consumers and welfare of Russian citizens has prohibited the Moldovan wine imports. It notes that the Moldovan wines have traditionally enjoyed an increased demand of Russian consumers due to the high quality and this fact has conditioned a considerable flow of Russian investments in Moldova’s wine sector. „I want to express my doubts that these high quality parameters have suddenly become unacceptable, especially if taking into account the fact that the Moldovan wine products exported to the Russian market are certified by bodies accredited in these systems of the Russian Federation," reads the letter of Lupu, who asks Russian high-ranking dignitaries to contribute to revision of the interdiction on Moldovan wine imports. Similar appeals were sent to the chairman of the committee for international affairs of the State Duma, Konstantin Kosachyov, on behalf of chairman of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration, Sergiu Stati, to the chairman of the committee for economic policy, partnership, entrepreneurship and property of the Federation Council, Oganez Oganesean, and the chairman of the committee for economic policy, entrepreneurship and tourism of the State Duma, Valery Draganov, on behalf of the parliamentary commission for economy, budget and finance, Nicolae Bondarciuc. The head of the parliamentary commission for agriculture and food industry, Valeriu Cosarciuc, has sent a similar letter to the chairman of the committee of agrarian problems of the State Duma, Genady Kulik.
