The National Opera Prima Donna Maria Biesu’s body will be returned to her home on Mateevici Street on Friday, May 18, at 12 AM, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the program approved at the meeting of the governmental committee for the organization of Maria Biesu’s funerals, the prima donna’s coffin will brought to Saint Nicholas’ Church on Stefan cel Mare Avenue, at 4 PM.
Relatives, colleagues and friends will say goodbye and will present their condolences to the mourning family during a religious services officiated by an group of priests.
In the morning of May 19, at 7 AM, the Holy and Divine Liturgy and the Epitaph will be officiated at Saint Nicholas’ Church. Afterwards, Maria Biesu’s body will be transported to the National Opera and Ballet Theater.
Beginning at 10 AM, her coffin will be placed in the ground floor hall of the Theater, where the National Opera and Ballet Theater Choir and Orchestra will present a concert and people will be able to come and say goodbye to the prima donna.
At 12 AM, a mourning meeting will take place and then the body will be taken to the Central Cemetery on Mateevici Street where it will be buried. Another mourning meeting will be organized in the cemetery at 2 PM.
Maria Biesu died aged 76. She was the Prima Donna of the National Opera, had the title of People’s Artist, was a laureate of the State Awards, university professor, academician, Doctor Honoris Causa, knight of the Order of the Republic and holder of the National Order “The Star of Romania”. May 19 was declared day of national mourning.
