March staged on Memory Day

On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the start of the war for defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, a Memory March, followed by a meeting, will be staged in Chisinau on March 2, IPN reports.

In the morning, all the churches will hold services in memory of those killed in war. At 9am, flowers will be laid at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy. Later the participants will go on a march from the Great National Assembly Square to the Memorial Complex “Eternity”, where a commemoration meeting involving senior state officials will be held. After the meeting, the veterans will take part in a remembrance meal with soldier’s porridge.

Given the planned march, the police said sections of the central square of Chisinau, Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd, Ismail St and Pan Halippa St will be closed to traffic starting at 10am on March  3.

A number of 300 combatants and more than 400 civilians were killed and several hundred people were injured in the war for defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova. The ceasefire agreement between Moldova and Russia was signed on July 21, 1992.

The Memory Day is celebrated on March 2.
