A number of mothers with children took part in a march in support of breastfeeding on August 1. The event was held on the occasion of the World Breastfeeding Week that takes places on August 1-7, IPN reports.
The march was staged by the public association “Mammy breastfeeding” and the portal mama.md. The participants brought white balloons that they released into the sky in a park.
One of the founding members of the association Anastasia Popescu said that breastfeeding is a logic successive chain in conception. “This is how it should be and how it was planned. Almost all the women can breastfeed. We are trying to help as many women as possible to breastfeed because, owing to the myths spread in our society, the women fail to breastfeed,” she stated.
This year, the World Breastfeeding Week has 15 objectives related to the mother’s health, the rights of the mother and child and to the fact that owing to breastfeeding, the women can save money in the family’s budget. “The goal of the march is to meet and support each other because, in the period during which the child is small, the mother faces a series of problems,” said another founding members Olga Gutium.
The mothers came to the march to find out more information about breastfeeding and interesting things about children. The women also came to share the experience of breastfeeding. “As the mother is able to, she should breastfeed because an emotional connection is formed this way with the child. By breastfeeding, we offer the children everything they need,” stated Olga Pleshko.
The breastfeeding march was mounted the second consecutive year. Within the World Breastfeeding Week, a number of events will be staged in Chisinau, including five seminars on different themes.
