Most of the voters past age 50 are uninformed about and show little interest in the electronic voter register piloted in the ongoing referendum at 43 polling stations in Chisinau. At the same time, many young people seek to be registered electronically without waiting for additional instructions from the poll organizers, Info-Prim Neo learned from Nicolae Babii, the head of the voting station no.113 in Chisinau. Vladimir Gutu, an operator in the pilot-project, says many voters don't understand what is going on and don't even ask why they need to produce their IDs for a second time when they approach the operator's table. The elderly are the ones who are the most confused, said one observer. “If this system was present in all the polling stations, it would be a lot easier and faster to collect turn-out data” , Vladimir Gutu explained one of the advantages of the piloted instrument. The e-register sends voter data, including name and address, to the server of the Central Election Commission. An operator can then verify if the one who cast the vote was eligible to do so and that person voted at the right station. Additionally, the CEC's server records the turn-out of the voter, thus preventing multiple voting.
