The Chisinau Prosecutor's Office today has sent to the Centru District Court the charges against the administrators of the notorious La Soacra diner, where four people were killed and nine others were hurt in an explosion in January.

The Prosecutor General's Office said in a press release that the main administrator was charged with violation of safety rules, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison. His wife faces up to 6 years on similar charges.

Being heard as suspects, the woman admitted her guilt, and the man did so only partially, pledging to pay damages to the victims.

Three of the people hurt in the explosion filed civil actions, demanding 2 million lei in pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages.

The Chisinau prosecutors are continuing the La Soacra investigation, with three safety inspection officers currently being investigated on suspicion of receiving bribes. One of them is in custody, with the others placed under house arrest. They face fines of up to 200,000 lei, up to 10 years' imprisonment and a ban on public offices for up to 15 years.
