Managers of city divisions use public property in their own interest, Mayor Chirtoaca

Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has warned the city officials he will take action against those who use municipal enterprises and public property in their own interest, Info-Prim Neo reports. However, the mayor has refrained from naming any examples of public property misuse. He only urged the civil servants to be good managers like they do in their own households with their personal property “which they maintain at low costs for a long period of time”. “I suppose everybody knows what I mean”, the mayor said, adding that if the city officials do not change their attitude, it will be clear why Chisinau and the entire Moldova remains stagnant for 20 year now. The mayor also stressed the need for an extensive reform of the municipal divisions. To exemplify, Chirtoaca mentioned the division for education, youth and sports, which now has the powers of a district division, administering schools and ensuring their repair and maintenance. At the same time, Dorin Chirtoaca said that besides the current activity of the municipality, the decision makers at the City Hall have to be ready to implement broader projects that the city needs. Among such projects are the construction of a recycling facility for solid waste, of a new wastewater treatment plant, and of social housing. The launch of such projects has been delayed by the financial ebb caused by the obligation to pay compensations for heat, the mayor concluded.
