The man who squirted his wife and daughter with acid in February this year was sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison. The court also ordered him to pay 1.6 million lei to the injured party, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the 56-year-old defendant, who was in an apartment in Botanica district of the capital city, initiated a conflict with his 36-year-old wife. He took a bottle of concentrated sulfuric acid, with which he squirted the woman and, inadvertently, his 6-year-old daughter, who tried to protect her mother.
The woman suffered multiple chemical burns on her face and body, including burns to her respiratory tract. The little girl also suffered, but the burns were less serious.
The defendant admitted his guilt and said that he regretted his gesture. The case was examined in a simplified procedure.
The man was convicted of attempted murder of a family member committed with premeditation, with particular cruelty, by using means dangerous to the life or health of a number of people.
The sentence is not final and can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
