The man aged 66 from Telenești district, who killed his five-month-old granddaughter last summer, was sentenced to ten years in jail. The sentence was passed by the Telenești branch of the Orhei Court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the murder was committed in the yard of the man’s daughter in Brânzenii-Noi village in the morning of July 27, 2018. Leaving the child in the man’s care, the parents went to work. In several ours, the man, who drank alcoholic beverages meanwhile, hit his granddaughter with a sharp object for several times while she was sleeping in the carriage.
The man was also obliged to follow alcoholism treatment and to pay over 38,000 lei court costs.
The sentence can be challenged in the Appeals Court.
