A man was sentenced to 30 years in jail for murdering another man from his village, whom he met for the first time earlier that day. The sentence can be appealed, IPN reports.
The tragedy happened in July 2014 in Grimancauti village, Briceni district. The investigation revealed that although the two men lived in the same village and were the same age, 32, they had only met that day at the bus station. Both of them were drunk. The victim was found with 41 knife wounds and beheaded.
Maria Vieru, head of the Prosecutor's General Office press service, told IPN that the prosecutors wanted a life sentence for the murder and will now study the argumentation of the sentence to decide whether to push on in a higher court.
