Man killed with hammer to be robbed of €10,000. Two suspects detained

Two persons were detained on suspicion that they killed a man from Ivanovca village of Hancesti district in November 2019. Then, the body of the 59-year-old victim was found carbonized in his home. As a result of investigations, it became known that the man was killed to be robbed of the about €10,000 he obtained after selling a house, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the one who notified the authorities about the case was a neighbor. He came to the man’s house to check why he did not answer the calls of the employees of the stores he owned. One of the stores was located right in the courtyard of his house. The man lived alone as his wife had died and the couple had no children. Forensic experts determined that the victim was hit with a hammer for at least 40 times.

Recently, based on special investigative measures, two persons aged over 30 were detained. One of the suspects was detained the day he was released from the Leova penitentiary. He was convicted of robberies, drug trafficking, theft and hooliganism. The second suspect, some time before committing the crime, served his sentence for hooliganism, theft and break-in.

At the request of PCCOCS, the two were remanded in custody for 30 days. The man who was released from the Leova penitentiary is cooperating with the investigation authority.
